Topical Antifungal Medicine for Fungal Nail Infections

One of the most common skin infections people get are fungal finger and toe nail infections. This is because the body is host to thousands, if not millions, of fungi, bacterium and other microorganisms. They are generally not a problem in healthy persons. However, under the right conditions, these organisms can cause disease. Toenail and fingernail fungus is one that develops often. Nail fungus is difficult to get rid of because it lives on the nail bed which is protected by the nail. Captain Stirling Pharmacy has developed a new type of treatment for the stubborn infection in the form of finger and toe nail solution. We have developed a formula containing the antifungal Miconazole, the anti-inflammatory Ibuprofen and Urea for its hydration and keratolytic properties.

There is a synergistic effect between the antifungal Miconazole and the anti-inflammatory Ibuprofen in treating infections caused by dermatophytes and yeasts, such as Candida. The Urea assists in softening the nail by hydration, thus allowing the actives Miconazole and Ibuprofen to readily pass through the normally impenetrable nail.

All medicines can have sides effects, normally topical antifungal and anti-inflammatory medications rarely cause side effects. If you feel you have a problem stop using the medicine and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

We have listed some possible but rare side effects if you have trouble breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, hives, skin rash, itching, headache or dizziness, then cease using the medication.

Instructions for application are as follows; shake the bottle prior to application. Apply Nail Solution twice a day to the affected nail/s; apply several coats as you would a normal nail polish. Allow to dry, avoid washing the applied areas for 10 minutes to allow penetration to take effect. Recap firmly after use.

Final points, using a topical antifungal around the toes after an infection is cured may prevent future re-infection. In addition always use antifungal shoe powder or spray to help eradicate re-infection from foot ware ie Daktarin™. It is also advised if you have sweaty feet an antiperspirant contain Aluminium Chloride should also be applied. .

Miconazole/Ibuprofen Topical Nail Antifungal Solution Treatment Protocol

Step 1:                  Shake the bottle well before use. Apply the antifungal nail solution to clean, dry nails as you would a normal nail polish. Recap bottle firmly.

Step 2:                  Allow to dry and avoiding washing the applied area for 10 minutes to allow solution to penetrate to the nail bed

Step 3:                  Repeat process TWICE daily morning and night continue until the solution is finished. Duration of treatment is usually between 6 weeks to 6 months as fungi can return if not totally eradicated.

 Step 4:                  Use antifungal spray or powder concurrently in shoes/on feet (e.g. Dakatarin™) to aid process. If sweaty feet are also a problem then an antiperspirant (Aluminium Chloride) is also advised.

Step 5:                  Following eradication, using a topical antifungal cream (e.g. Canesten™, Lamisil™, Clonea™, SolvEasy™) around the toes can help to prevent reinfestation.
